Privacy Policy

1. Purpose and obligation.

The Progressive Party is concerned about the rights of individuals regarding personal data and their processing. The Progressive Party emphasises that all personal data should be processed lawfully and fairly.

The Progressive Party's privacy policy is established in accordance with the provisions of the law on data protection and the processing of personal data, and EU Regulation No. 2016/679 (GDPR) on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and such information.

The Progressive Party's privacy policy outlines the purposes for which personal data is collected and how they are processed. The Progressive Party stresses the importance of having its privacy policy clear, straightforward, and simple.

Personal data, according to the meaning of this policy, refers to any information about an identified or identifiable individual, i.e., information that can be traced directly or indirectly to a specific individual.

2. Responsibility.

The Progressive Party, Hverfisgata 33, 101 Reykjavík, reg. no. 560169-7449, is the data controller of the personal information provided to the party and collected by the party.

The Progressive Party is a political party, i.e. a voluntary association founded around specific policies, ideologies, and opinions, and a fundamental condition of democracy is that free activities related to political opinions are allowed to flourish. For this reason, political parties enjoy constitutional protection as particularly important associations in a democratic state. It is essential for political organisations to manage personal data, including for the purpose of communicating information to party members and, when applicable, others.

The Progressive Party has appointed a data protection officer who can be contacted by sending an email to personuvernd@framsokn.is or by post to the above address.

The data protection policy is communicated to all staff, who also sign a confidentiality agreement.

3. Information.

The purpose of collecting and processing personal data is so that the Progressive Party can fulfil its obligations and uphold its role towards party members, employees, and those it has business relationships with. The personal data held by the Progressive Party is not used for any purpose other than that for which it was collected.

The Progressive Party collects and processes personal data about party members, employees, and those the party has business relationships with. The party only gathers the information necessary for it to fulfil its duties to the aforementioned parties.

In general, the Progressive Party collects personal data directly from party members, employees, or those it has business relationships with. However, information may also come from third parties, such as government entities and companies.

The Progressive Party is concerned with communicating its policies and activities. Such information dissemination is based on the ability to engage in communication with people. The collection of personal data related to members particularly focuses on enabling the party to fulfil its role of conveying information and facilitating members' participation in the party's work.

To ensure the reliability of the information the party holds, it is updated as needed, for example, by cross-referencing data with the national register.

Diverse information may be collected depending on the nature of the relationship of the individual with the party. Below, you can find an overview of what information the party may collect and for what purpose it may be retained.

It applies to the sections that follow that information regarding names, identification numbers, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers is not shared with third parties.

3.1. NAFN.

The information is used to keep track of the names of those who are members of the party and its individual associations. It is also used to keep track of those in the sponsorship system, pay membership fees, as well as those who hold confidential positions for the party.

3.2. IDENTIFICATION NUMBER.

The information is primarily used to distinguish individuals with the same names from one another. Identification numbers are also used to obtain information about the age and gender of group members. In addition, they are used to retrieve monthly updates from the national registry regarding residence and other information held by the national registry.

3.3. ADDRESS AND POSTCODE.

Information about the address and postcode is used to register party members in the correct party groups within the party, i.e. the party groups and associations operating in the municipality/postcode where the individual resides. Additionally, the information about the address and postcode is also used to forward information by post regarding party activities.

3.4 NETFANG.

Email addresses are used to send information to party members, which can be of any kind and may relate to events, meetings, messages, fundraising, policies, as well as various matters related to elections, etc. Records are kept of the email addresses of those who have given permission for this.

3.5. PHONE NUMBER.

Phone numbers are used to communicate information to party members, which can be of any kind and relate to events, meetings, messages, fundraising, policies, as well as various matters related to elections, etc. Records are kept of the phone numbers of those who have given their consent.

3.6. HANDLING OF CLASS REGISTER.

The Progressive Party maintains a central party register where information about all party members is kept, including the association in which each party member works, their rights, and any confidential duties they have for the party. Access to the complete party register is only available to those staff members of the Progressive Party who require it due to their work, and it is not shared with third parties.

The central party register includes information about the membership lists of each affiliated association. Access to such membership lists is only granted to the chairs and boards of those associations for legitimate purposes in order to fulfil their obligations to members, including regarding general and association meetings, as well as the method of selecting candidate lists. This also applies, when appropriate, to party members in special confidential roles such as chairpersons of meetings and staff of association meetings, as well as election committees and nomination committees in connection with the method of selecting candidate lists. Boards of associations can grant a specific group of members limited access to the membership list to share information with other members, e.g., in the lead-up to parliamentary and municipal elections. When such a register is created, it includes identification numbers, names, addresses, postal codes, and, where appropriate, phone numbers of all who are members of an association. Associations and unions do not receive email addresses from the party register, but the party office sends out messages via email to the operational area of each association and union as needed at any given time. Such access to the membership list is only provided upon signing a processing agreement and ensuring that its handling is in full compliance with the party rules and national laws.

In relation to the method of selecting candidate lists, sorting, and elections to confidential positions within the associations and unions of the party, candidates may gain access to the electoral register, i.e., the relevant membership list, by signing processing agreements regarding the handling of the electoral register, ensuring that its handling is in full compliance with the party rules and national laws. When preparing the electoral register, email addresses are never provided to third parties; however, individual candidates may request the party office to send out emails in their name to those on the electoral register.

In this regard, the party seeks to take appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data with special consideration to their nature. These measures are intended to protect personal data against loss or alteration by accident and against unlawful access, copying, use, or dissemination. The Progressive Party employs, for instance, access control to the party's information systems for the purpose of ensuring the aforementioned.

The Progressive Party does not share personal data with companies, institutions, or individuals unless required to do so by law, for example, to supervisory authorities, law enforcement agencies, or other parties that are legally authorised to receive such information.

Information may be sent, as appropriate, to processors who handle personal data on behalf of the Progressive Party or undertake related tasks on behalf of the Progressive Party. Those receiving information about members of the Progressive Party are bound by confidentiality obligations in the same way as employees of the Progressive Party.

6. Preservation of information.

The Progressive Party retains personal information for as long as necessary in accordance with the purpose and objectives of the processing at any given time.

Personal information of a party member is deleted from the Progressive Party's system upon resignation from the party.

Party members are free to unsubscribe or subscribe to the Progressive Party's mailing list. It is possible to register for the mailing list on the Progressive Party's website. There is an option to unsubscribe from the mailing list at the bottom of the newsletters.

Furthermore, the individual has the right to object to the processing and to request that their data be transferred. To obtain the aforementioned information, one must contact the Data Protection Officer of the Progressive Party at personuvernd@framsokn.is.

Moreover, it is possible to file a complaint with the Data Protection Authority if anything seems questionable regarding the party's handling of personal information.

If situations arise where the Progressive Party cannot comply with a request for information, the Progressive Party will strive to explain why this is the case.

7. Changes to the privacy policy.

The Progressive Party is allowed to change this privacy policy at any time and such changes will take effect without notice. Such changes may, for example, be made to align the privacy policy with applicable laws and regulations concerning privacy from time to time or due to changes in how the party handles personal information.
