105 years of Progress for the Icelandic society

Dear reader.

The story of Framsókn over 105 years is intertwined with the progress story of the Icelandic nation and how Icelandic society has reached the top ranks in most things that are considered good and important in the world's societies. For a large part of these 105 years, Framsókn has been at the government table, but in between has provided the country's governments with important checks and balances in opposition.

Framsókn is a centrist party that has cooperation as its guiding principle in its work. It rejects extremes, whether they are associated with right or left or other axes, and seeks agreement and cooperation on methods and outcomes that are beneficial to the public. It is cooperation that has propelled us in Iceland so rapidly forward in societal development. The power of unity and collaboration is the key to progress. We in Framsókn focus on the strong foundation on which society is built and support changes to what needs fixing. Framsókn is not a party of revolutions; we are a party of progress.

It is not a given that political movements reach old age. For this to happen, they need to be dynamic and resonate with the society they are part of, the society they serve. The mission Framsókn has in Icelandic politics is significant, as demonstrated by the election victory of the autumn. The mission is multifaceted but is based on what was engraved long ago: Work, growth, welfare. Without a strong business community, it will not be possible to maintain a robust welfare system. The foundation of progress also lies in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive in their lives with good education and diverse job opportunities.

Since Framsókn was established in December 1916, it has always emphasized a strong business sector all over the country. Gradually, the pillars of the economy have multiplied and strengthened: Agriculture, fisheries, industry, tourism, and most recently, creative fields and knowledge industries. We face great challenges due to climate change, but within these challenges are also opportunities for a country based on green energy.

Dear reader. Framsókn will henceforth, as ever, advocate for reforms in Icelandic society, for the benefit of its people. I thank the great support Framsókn has received over the years, not least in the election victory of 2021. The future is green, it is bright, and it is determined at the centre.

Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, Chairman of Framsókn and Minister for Infrastructure.
