The congress of the Progressive Party will be on 14th-15th February 2026 at Hilton Reykjavík Nordica.
General information about party congress
The Progressive Party holds a regular party congress no less than every other year, typically in the first half of the year. The congress of the Progressive Party determines the main policies of the party in national matters, establishes the party's statutes, and has supreme authority over its affairs.
At the party congress, a chairman of the Progressive Party shall be elected, and he shall also be the chairman of the party's central board. Additionally, at the party congress, a vice-chairman, a secretary, and two auditors of accounts shall be elected. Furthermore, two co-managers for the legal committee and two substitutes shall be elected. Moreover, two co-managers for the ethics committee and two substitutes shall be elected.
Each party member has the right to send one representative with voting rights to the party congress for every 15 members or part thereof. An equal number of substitutes should be elected. The number of representatives shall be based on the membership list as it stands at the party office 30 days before the party congress. The procedure for electing representatives is governed by the laws of individual affiliated organisations. Affiliated organisations must notify their choice of representatives for the party congress to the party office no later than one week before the congress begins.
Central committee members have voting rights at the party congress.
Secretarial work
The Issues Committee has completed updating the Progressive Party's policy since the last party congress. The committee has rearranged the resolutions, rephrased them, and added new resolutions. The groups at the party congress will largely correspond to the committees of the Althing.
