12 want to lead for Framsókn in Reykjavik

Twelve candidates are running on the Framsókn's party list in the two Reykjavik constituencies as the nomination deadline expired at noon today.

Lilja Dögg Alfreðsdóttir, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, is the sole candidate for the top spot in Reykjavik South constituency, while in Reykjavik North constituency, MPs Karl Garðarsson, Þorsteinn Sæmundsson, and lawyer Haukur Logi Karlsson are all vying for the top position.

Lárus Sigurður Lárusson, a district court lawyer, is running for the 2nd position in Reykjavik North constituency.

Others competing for the 2nd to 5th positions include: Alex Björn B. Stefánsson, a university student, Ásgerður Jóna Flosadóttir, with an MBA and BA in political science and media studies, Björn Ívar Björnsson, a university student, Gissur Guðmundsson, a chef, Gunnar Kristinn Þórðarson, an administration specialist, Ingvar Mar Jónsson, a pilot and deputy city council member, and Sævar Þór Jónsson, a district court lawyer.

An election will be held for the top five positions at a double constituency meeting on Saturday, 27 August. The election committee is currently reviewing the legality of the nominations, rules on gender quotas, and other matters for the meeting.

Attention is drawn to the fact that voting is conducted for each position individually, starting with the highest positions. After each round, candidates have the opportunity to stand for lower positions on the list if they do not secure the position they are seeking.
