32 million króna in grants for women's employment issues

Eygló Harðardóttir, the Minister of Social Affairs and Housing, recently allocated 32 million krónur in grants for women’s employment issues. A total of 33 projects received funding in accordance with the results of the advisory committee that assessed the applications, with a total of 219 applications for grants for projects from all over the country.

The projects were diverse as usual. Among them were funding for geothermal boreholes, development of environmentally friendly packaging instead of plastic, and the cultivation of stem cells using new methods. These projects received 3 million krónur each. Other projects include the production of organic earthworm soil, the creation of a business plan for the publication of a Polish-Icelandic magazine, and the creation of a business plan for the educational and family game Fuglafár.

With grants like these, increased diversity in the economy is supported, and many new companies have come to light that create jobs for the benefit of society. This type of grant is also a significant encouragement for women, which is no less important when the time comes.

Grants for women’s employment issues have been allocated since 1991 and are intended for women working on good business ideas and projects. The conditions for grants are that the projects are owned by women, managed by them, and involve innovation or creativity. It is not necessary to have an operating company to apply for a grant, so it is allowed to apply for projects at the startup stage, but women can also apply for grants who are developing innovations in operating companies. Grants can be applied for the creation of a business plan, for marketing, product development, design, and for salary costs, but grants for construction or fixed costs are not provided.
