To prioritise in favour of the infrastructure
Vigdís Hauksdóttir, MP, raised the issue that many tourist sites are suffering damage and that a planned allocation of 850 million is set for urgent projects at tourist sites in line with the policy of prioritising the infrastructure. This was mentioned in the Althing last week.
“The MPs who have been following the budget discussions know that I am a strong advocate for minimising the use of supplementary budgets, but the changes that have been announced now revolve around the government adhering to the policy of prioritising infrastructure. Most should know that vulnerable tourist sites are suffering damage, so I believe this funding is well spent. We are well aware of why this has come about now; it is because there has been no agreement in parliament on the processing of the bill regarding nature passes,” said Vigdís.
“Regarding funding for the Road Administration, I very much welcome that the state of the country's road system after the last electoral term is, to put it mildly, in tatters, as no funding was allocated to that area in the last electoral term. Furthermore, an increase for the Road Administration was proposed between the 2nd and 3rd readings in parliament before the last New Year, so it is quite clear where this government is headed.”
