To vote outside of the polling station
All those who cannot reach the polling station on 14 May can vote by post. The Ministry of Justice has prepared instructional videos in Icelandic and English on how to vote by post in local government elections.
You can vote at district commissioners across the country. On the website of district commissioners, you can see where and when you can vote. In the capital area, voting by post takes place in Holtagarður on the second floor.
Opening hours in Holtagarður are:
2 May – 13 May, 10:00-22:00.
On polling day, Saturday 14 May, it will be open from 10:00-17:00 for voters who are registered outside the capital area.
Polling stations abroad:
Those who are abroad can vote at the embassy office, in the consular office, or at the office of the elected consul. On the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, further information can be found.
Polling stations at institutions:
You can vote at hospitals, nursing homes for the elderly, facilities for disabled people, and in prisons. Such voting will be announced at each home, hospital, or institution.
A voter who cannot attend the polling station on polling day due to illness, disability, or childbirth is allowed to vote at home unless they can vote at a hospital, nursing home, prison, or institution. A request to vote at home must be in writing and supported by a certificate from a legally competent person regarding the voter's situation, and must be submitted to the district commissioner no later than 10 o'clock two days before polling day.
