Annual meeting of the Association of Senior Framsókn Members (SEF)

Dear party members!

I would like to start by thanking all those who came to our party congress last weekend for their collaboration and companionship there. The congress was both energetic in its work and fruitful, and no less important, there was a good spirit, which was then well reflected in its work and matters. A true spirit of social cooperation as it should be in all the work of us Framsókn people and great solidarity.

One of the things approved at the last congress was amendments to the laws which meant that the Association of Older Framsókn Members for those aged 60 and older (SEF), which was established in 2013, received formal status as a separate union within the Framsókn Party, and its chairman will henceforth sit on the party's executive board and national board like the chairpersons of SUF and LFK. I am very pleased with this approval from the congress, as it is good to establish a forum to work on the matters of this age group and to advise the party on them.

The preparation for the SEF annual meeting, which will be held at Hverfisgötu 33 in Reykjavik on the 25th of April next, is now underway. According to SEF's laws, all members of the Framsókn Party, 60 years and older, who are registered with the party 30 days before the annual meeting according to the membership register at its office, have voting rights at that meeting. Then, no later than 10 days before the annual meeting, proposals about candidates for trusted positions must have been received by the board. As there is currently no active board in SEF, it is appropriate to send these proposals to the party's office within the same timeframe.

The trusted positions to be elected are chairman, four board members, and three on the substitute board. A trusted council will also be elected, with six members or one from each constituency. It advises and assists the association's board. In preparation for the annual meeting, the party office is looking into how it can make it possible for party members, who cannot travel to Reykjavik, to participate in its activities, and this will be announced closer to the time.

As I launch this, I hope that as many elder Framsókn members as possible will come to this annual meeting to kick off SEF's activities with energy. I am convinced that like SUF and LFK, SEF will contribute to strengthening our good party work even further and make the Framsókn Party even stronger in the political life of the country. Mark the 25th of April next on your calendar.

With Framsókn greetings, Jón Björn Hákonarson, secretary of the Framsókn Party
