"To calculate a child into a woman and back out again"

Karl Garðarsson, Member of Parliament, spoke at the Althingy yesterday: "Honourable President. In the story of Davíðs Stefánsson, Sólon Íslandus, men gained fame for counting a child in a woman and back out again. This was recalled over the weekend when my excellent friend and the honourable MP Oddný Harðardóttir, a member of the Social Democrats, asserted in the media that the highest-earning third of the population had received more than 50 billion from the debt relief of the current government. This is far from true. Firstly, the representation is misleading because the calculations include those who are part-time workers, in education or simply not in the labour market, thus combined into one pool and calculated from that. The only realistic comparison is to look at the income distribution of the 74,000 individuals who have index-linked home loans. These are those who were affected by the change in premises."

And Karl continued: "The facts are these: 60% of households that received the adjustment had annual incomes of 8 million or less, which corresponds to 670,000 kr. per month. The largest portion of the adjustment went to households with annual incomes below 4 million kr. The Left government advocated the so-called 110% path. Here, 1,250 individuals who received the most averaged 21 million kr. each, 21 million. Those 1,250 individuals who received the most from the action of the current government averaged 3.5 million kr. in their share. 21 million kr. from the previous government, 3.5 million kr. from this one. I will not even mention those individuals who received tens of millions of kr. from the 110% path of Steingrímur Sigfússon."

"Criticism of the adjustment of the current government thus comes from the hardest quarter by those who set world records in injustice. World records in unjust distribution of finances," Karl concluded.
