Our actions will lay the foundation for a strong community in the country!

Sigurður Ingi Jóhannsson, leader of the Framsókn Party, had a virtual meeting with the ambassadors of the Nordic countries in Iceland along with the Consul General of the Faroe Islands in Iceland. The purpose of the meeting was to have a conversation about politics, the state of economic affairs, and the next steps leading up to the elections.

In Sigurður Ingi's remarks, it was highlighted that the Framsókn Party stands strong in the centre and is an important force in Icelandic society, which has a definite call into the next government. The party set ambitious goals for the last elections, including building transportation infrastructure, strengthening education, solving the issues of young people with their first home purchases, and working towards economic stability. Furthermore, it was emphasized that the government is standing strong and that the parties are united in the measures that benefit households and businesses due to Covid-19.

During the meeting, Sigurður Ingi expressed his disappointment with the European Union's conduct regarding unclear statements about restricting the distribution of vaccines to Iceland. With this premature action, the European Union has drawn a certain line in the sand. There is now a need to be highly proactive in acquiring more vaccine, regardless of the agreements previously made. The key for the tourism and economy to grow again is to expedite vaccinations as much as possible.

In Sigurður Ingi's speech, it was also stated that it is crucial to create jobs, and therefore the party has placed major emphasis on employment, employment, employment. Icelanders are not accustomed to high unemployment rates, and industriousness has been considered one of the main values of Icelandic society. Regional issues were also discussed, and measures aimed at bridging the gap between rural areas and the capital were considered. The development is positive, and the actions that have been taken will yield results and lay the foundation for a strong regional structure in the country.
