Revision of the Constitution

The Constitution is a social contract of those who inhabit Iceland, and therefore, the process for its revision must be based on transparency and a clear democratic mandate. Framsókn's stance on changes to the constitution is based on the values and fundamental policy of the party, and the economic vision that human dignity takes precedence over material value. Such a revision must be based on a credible process that reflects the nature of the task and ensures that its provisions best reflect the shared core values of the nation.

Framsókn suggests that more detailed provisions regarding the judiciary be enshrined in the constitution to better ensure the independence of the judiciary.

President of Iceland

The President plays an important role in Iceland's governance. He has well-defined and active measures to serve as a safety valve on behalf of the public, for example, by referring controversial issues to a national vote.

The President must have a clear mandate from the majority of the nation, which could be achieved through two rounds of elections or an alternative vote system (AV).

The provisions regarding the minimum age for the president should be reassessed.

Framsókn wants the number of endorsements for presidential candidacy to be re-evaluated.

Right to Vote

Framsókn proposes that the right to vote should be based on the beginning of the year in which an individual reaches voting age, not their birthday. There is no reason to deny participation in elections to those whose birthday is after polling day. This change could positively impact youth voter turnout, as they would then vote together as a cohort within the same year.

Religious and Philosophical Organisations Still Supported

Framsókn supports freedom of religion and belief. Framsókn wants parish fees to be fully allocated to all registered religious and philosophical organisations for those who choose to register with them.

Framsókn wants continued support for the strong work of the National Church across the country, as it has obligations to all citizens.
